See, I'm a big fan of "gritty" movies where the hero isn't...a hero so to speak. Anti-heros are a big thing with me because they seem that much more human than the knight in shining armour (no matter how I adore that archetype). Movies like Sin City (Marv, for example) always make a big impression on me. Gangs of New York did it for me too.
I'm moving off topic, I apologize. I know what you mean about faux-edgy (Kill Bill, in my mind - though I enjoyed it), though...and Batman Begins almost walked the line there... and I think he should have been a little darker.
I did, however, like how there were no silly comic book campy supervillians...even Mr. Murphy had a reason to be "The Scarecrow." (HOT!)
