This is a very simple anonymous poll and shouldn't take long. I'm mainly curious about "hidden" readers who don't comment or email, but please, if you see this entry, do indulge me.

Poll.

My recently-installed counter indicates that my circulation is about 11 people, which is about what I expected. I'm really uncomfortable doing much pimping so this is my own fault, and 11 serious readers is a very worthwhile audience. Still, I'm all about personal challenges. I'd like to horsewhip myself into advertising more, but, uh, where? Do people still use email lists and Yahoo groups in serious numbers? Is exposure on FF.net worth the icky feeling? Is this even the kind of writing that's going to appeal to very many people, no matter how hard I pimp? (I'm guessing no, personally. Not so much that I'm a special unique flower as that it's an OC story with prominent religious overtones featuring canon from an unpopular 80s comic. Canon which I am savagely mutilating.)

I'm just crunching numbers here and thinking about my game plan, so don't take this as a ploy for sympathy or anything else. Pimping is a good skill to learn.

I've pimped a little on the LJ groups, and I'd thought that it wasn't doing any good until I checked out the counter results--people are indeed clicking the link, even months after. I should indeed do it more, but going into a strange group and announcing my mangled-canon OC fic is as painful as writing resumes.

Eep, I know you've already linked to me a couple of times, but on the other hand exposure is good, so uh flip a coin? (This is why I hate advertising.) No pressure to do it, but I would be happy if your stable of smart readers took a look. There's probably a better chance that one of them would like it than the kids at FF.net.

I can't really say how much exposure you'd get on FF.net; given the sheer volume of fics there you'd probably be lucky to get any reviews at all. As someone who has no icky feeling posting to the Pit of Voles, I'd advise it if you want your stories on as many sites as you can.

I don't put much stock in FF.net reviews, so if I did post anything there it would be just for exposure. I might put up "A Chassis Made of Cars" or other short pieces if and when I do them, in hopes of getting some name recognition.

I wish I were better at short fics, since that does tend to be how people feel out a new author.

You can add me to your 11.. or I'm already part of the 11.

I read The Aphanes, and thought it was wonderful. It wasn't like much Xmen fic I've read (I haven't read much), but I love the way you write, and Joel/Paul is love.

I have no idea about pimping. Sorry. I'll end up reccing you when I get my act together.

Thanks muchly. It's really not much like other X-Men fic, although I keep intending to write more conventional stuff as a challenge to myself--working within limits is a useful skill.

I really appreciate reccing, too.
