Chapter 8 is finished.
Jul. 5th, 2006 06:45 pmThe long-awaited Chapter 8, Snakes and Ladders, is done. Don't blame me, blame capitalism and Tim Horton (God rest his soul).
Words OpenOffice didn't know:
hypomanic
schoolbuses
tabarnaq
tahini
[Read from the beginning]
Yeah, it ends on a lame little cliffhanger. Not even worth mentioning, except that I usually have more closure at the ends of chapters than that.

Date: 2006-07-06 03:21 am (UTC)I felt that was sort of a cliche, the OMG WALKING IN ON THE GAY KISS, but the two had to do it in the kitchen, because everything happens in the kitchen in a place like that, and they were expecting Prawn to take longer. And anyway, sometimes it's just fun and Coronation Street-ish to walk in on GAY KISSING.
That kiss had me pretty conflicted. Joel's sex issues are really tangled and I'm not even sure I should detail why, because I feel like it would confuse the issue more, like a red herring. Paul, on the other hand, is not particularly repressed and he's been waiting for five years, so I felt like it was time he did something.

I don't know.

Date: 2006-07-06 11:24 pm (UTC)This is really coming along nicely as a political drama/thriller. The interrogation scene gave me goosebumps. Those two doctors and the way they were so efficient, so professional and hardworking and devoted...they really don't think this is wrong. Joel and his..team? Disciples? going in after them will be fascinating.
Aurora/Jean-Marie's reasons for leaving were reasonable; the house must be a strange experience for both personalities. Prawn snarking at Langowski made the chapter worth reading by itself. It's strange to see Joel getting support from Madame DuPont, of all people. Their theological exchange was enlightening.
And then we have Joel/Paul. I don't know if this relationship will go any better then Joel/Hodyah, but Paul's direct nature and ability to sniff out Joel's evasions will be a help. And Prawn's line at the end was priceless.
Gang Bang Party

But we have also others!
